GENERAL INFORMATION
Welcome to this Roman Catholic Parish in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town at 17 Station Road, Brackenfell and Northpine Drive, Northpine respectively.
Catholic families from Brackenfell originally worshipped with sisters at a convent in Brackenfell and subsequently in the Kraaifontein parish. However, in the late 1970’s, when at least 80 families from Brackenfell were identified , a parish community was established in Brackenfell. As there was no church building, an Anglican church property was utilised, then a Methodist church property. A plot of land was then purchased and a prefabricated building erected. This was utilised until 1990 when the church in Station Road was purchased.
Northpine, as a suburb, was established in 1979, with some houses but no churches. Subsequently land was purchased in Northpine Drive and a hall facility was erected and named St. Kevin’s by our then Irish Parish priest, Father Eamonn O’ Neill. He also named the parish Care Group St Brigid’s as a nod to his Irish ancestry. Father Bernard Brown converted the hall facility into a church, where the Catholic families of Northpine could worship.
The parish has a vibrant and active Parish Pastoral Council, as well as Liturgical Groups of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Proclaimers of the Word, Choir, Altar Servers, Sacristans, Audio Visual Team and Ministers of Hospitality. The Catechism ministry is spirited and well attended. Other Sodalities are active within the parish and offer opportunities for spiritual guidance, care of the poor, fundraising and maintenance .
The parish has been served by many Diocesan priests from the Archdiocese of Cape Town, but latterly the communities of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales and the Redemptorist Fathers have served this parish. At present , the parish priest is Father Mari Joe of the Carmelite Fathers.
